Product Description Scott Kelby, author of the best-selling The Digital Photography Book, brings to life his "Photo Recipes" chapter-not just from this book, but from his smash best-selling follow-ups, volumes 2 and 3. In this two-hour video and companion booklet, Scott shows you exactly how it's all done, from scratch, without holding anything back.If you've ever wondered how the pros use natural light, studio light and even direct daylight to get those amazing shots, you'll see it all here, live, as it happens. Most of the shoot takes place in an amazing New York City loft photo studio as Scott re-creates the looks he describes in the book, along with some bonus lighting set-ups that aren't in the book, to create a very special learning experience you won't find anywhere else.Everything is put together from scratch (from studio shots to location shots to product photography), all while the cameras are rolling-you see it all from the very beginning so you'll be able to re-create those same looks without spending thousands on expensive high-end equipment. Best of all, Scott explains everything in simple, plain English, just like he'd tell a friend, using the same casual, conversational style that made his series of books a worldwide sensation. If you've ever wondered "how they do it," you're about to find out in this amazing DVD/book combo that shows how easy this all can be-once you know the secrets.

Fantastic Learning Tool January 8, 2010 Zack O. Jones (Goose Creek, SC) 11 out of 12 found this review helpful
I've read Scott's three digital photography books and learned quite a bit from them but being able to see exactly how he achieved the look that he did has greatly increased my knowledge of lighting setup and much more. As Andrew pointed out in his review this is as close as you can get to having Scott in the room telling you how to get the shot. An additional bonus is you can download all of the content from the DVD onto your iPod. The only nit that I have about the combo is that you can't play the DVD on your TVs DVD player. It was designed to be played on the computer only. In Scott's defense though I would imagine providing a DVD that would play on the TV would have driven up the cost due to the different formats required. Besides being able to download the entire content of the DVD onto my iPod Touch more than makes up for not being able to watch it on my TV. Without question this is the BEST $30 I've spent on photography. If/When there's another release in this series I will order as soon as Amazon is accepting orders for it. Thank you, Scott and your team, for sharing your knowledge with us.
Totally Awesome Book/DVD Combo January 6, 2010 Andrew E. Nixon (Hanover, MA USA) 11 out of 13 found this review helpful
Scott Kelby has hit the ball out of the park yet again with this Book/DVD combo. He has taken the most practical sections of his digital photography books and created a DVD ROM (works on your computer rather than TV) that shows exactly how he set up and shot the photographs. As far as I'm concerned this is about as close to having Scott at my shoulder telling me how to take the photograph as I'm going to get without him being actually with me. Very cool! Certainly took me from thinking that it couldn't be THAT easy to 'gee, even I stand a chance at getting that style of shot'.
Couldn't be happier with the combo and I'm looking forward to the next volume.

I received the book and DVD in the mail this afternoon. I got the DVD out of the box and put it in the DVD player only to discover that it can't be played on the tv. I then put it on the computer and discovered that the files are for the ipod. There is also a folder that says Mac on it. I can't use that as I'm on a PC.
I put all 16 lessons on my ipod and sat down and watched them. They show how to shoot using studio lighing. It's very informative.
The book mimics the DVD. It will help you after when you want to access the info fast without watching the videos again.
Apart from the 2 natural light video's you will need strobes to make the same images. Some setups use 2 lights, nice large softboxes, flags and a reflector.
Scott is a great guy, what's not to love. He teaches in a very clear understandable manner. If you haven't tried Kelby Training, give it a shot. I've learned a lot from that and it's only $20 a month. (I'm not affiliated with Kelby Training, except I'm a paying subscriber.)

This book/DVD combo is awesome. I read the first in Kelby's series of his Digital Photography and loved it so I thought I would try this out. I got it Monday and watched it all on Tuesday. It was great! It was well produced and very clear. I loved how he showed you were to position the lights and yourself and how to improvise when you do not have all your equipment with you. This is well worth the money and will help you get a better understanding how the pros do it. I cannot wait to try it out for myself. I highly recommend it.
Another great book by Scott January 24, 2010 Mr. Steven P. Bailey (Adelaide Australia) 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
Excellent reference- especially if you have read Scott's books on Photography 1 to 3 or are into Portrait Photography. Scott explains everything really well in a direct and easy to understand manner.
I have a theory - If you put two Scott Kelby products together pretty soon you will find you have a shelf full of them - his books and products are that good!
